Wellbeing First Policy – Telford Cat Grooming

At Telford Cat Grooming, the wellbeing and safety of every cat in our care is our top priority. We are committed to providing a calm, stress-free, and cat-friendly grooming experience, where welfare comes before speed or convenience.

1. Cat-First Approach

All grooming sessions are designed around the individual cat’s comfort, temperament, and health.

Cats are never forced into grooming. Handling is gentle, patient, and respectful of their boundaries.

We provide a dog-free, quiet environment to minimize stress.

2. Handling & Safety

Experienced handling techniques are used to ensure cats feel secure.

Soft muzzles, gloves, or calming aids may be used only if necessary to prevent injury to the cat or groomer.

Cats showing signs of extreme stress, aggression, or illness will be groomed in short sessions or referred to a veterinarian if appropriate.

3. Grooming Decisions

Mats, tangles, and overgrown fur are assessed carefully. Shaving or trimming will only be done if it is in the cat’s best interest.

Owners will be informed before any major grooming intervention.

No unnecessary procedures (such as sedation or rough handling) are ever performed.

4. Health & Hygiene

We check for signs of illness, skin issues, or injuries during every grooming session.

Fleas, ticks, or other contagious conditions are addressed before or during grooming, in consultation with the owner.

Grooming tools and the environment are sanitized regularly to maintain hygiene and prevent infection.

5. Stress Reduction Measures

Low-noise clippers and dryers are used wherever possible.

Calming pheromones and gentle music are available for nervous cats.

Cats are given breaks and offered water if a session is prolonged.

6. Owner Communication

Clear, honest updates are provided throughout the grooming process.

Owners are encouraged to share any special requirements, medical conditions, or behavioral concerns prior to booking.

If a cat’s welfare is at risk, the groom may be paused, shortened, or rescheduled.

7. Commitment Statement

At Telford Cat Grooming, we will never compromise the physical or emotional wellbeing of a cat for speed, convenience, or aesthetics. Every decision is made in the cat’s best interest, ensuring a safe, happy, and stress-free grooming experience.
